Parent Orientations

Our parent orientations begin this week- filling everyone in on how our year is going to go- daily schedules, PD days, volunteer information. What kinds of questions would you want answered as a parent of your preschool? How often would you volunteer if you were able? What sorts of things would you like to do as a classroom volunteer? Are you interested in learning about things you can do at home to accelerate your child’s learning and assist their independence?
The importance of community is something I want to discuss- as a Montessori parent and teacher, and as a human being- we all need to be connected to each other. These days we are all busy, and social media gives us the opportunity to connect with each other on one level- and don’t get me wrong, I love it! I recently discovered twitter, and have a Facebook page, and am fascinated by the ability to access so much information, and share so much information. I also believe though that this isolates us, in a time when we need to connect with other human beings more so than ever. Our world is constantly changing- we are global now- and this will become even more prevalent as our children grow- my daughter commented the other day about a news broadcast she saw where university students don’t even have to attend a class- they can do the whole class through an Ipad! Amazing. Montessori was & is very much about community connections- I’m hoping with our classes we can do special events- bbqs, family gatherings, parent workshops. All our field trips are parent attended, and this gives us the opportunity to meet each other and get to know families outside of the classroom. The more we connect- the more Montessori’s philosophies of peace can expand into the world. 🙂
