Sometimes trying to figure out what to send for snacks for your preschooler can be stressful! Snack time is generally only about 10-15 minutes so you want to send things that are easy for them to open (they have assistance from their educators but they like to do things themselves), easy for them to eat, not TOO messy, and quick to pull together. Here’s a list of some of our favourite ideas:
- Fruit: bananas, cut up strawberries, blueberries (my kids love them frozen!) cut up apple slices, easy peel oranges
- cheese- sliced or string
- cut up veggies with dip
- crackers and cheese
- yogurt- container or tube
- rice cakes
- banana bread
- dry cereal
- milk or juice box
Our rule is no nuts in the classroom- we are a large facility so we cannot guarantee completely nut free, but we try our best. So no granola bars with nuts, no peanut butter sandwiches etc.
Please also make sure your child has a water bottle and that they practice opening and closing it (tightly) before school begins- nothing worse than bringing home something special to show your grownups and opening up your backpack to discover that your water bottle has leaked all over it!
